Weekend Events

I already mentioned the "Lazlo Hollyfeld" zine release at MINT Gallery this Friday (featuring music from Swamp Ape and The Sunglasses) and the artist talks today at the Contemporary, but there is so much more. Saturday, 8:00 at WonderRoot is the closing reception for their June artists, Charlie B., Francis Matia, Rachel Evans, Brennan Maddox, Christy Parry, and Lee Summers. Also on Saturday is R. Lands solo show in which he's rented out an empty space in Little Five Points for the month. More on that show here.

Artist Talks at the Contemporary

From time to time I am asked about lectures and artists talks around town. Unfortunately I find myself a little out of the loop in this respect. However, I did come across what looks to be an interesting opportunity to hear from some local artists this Thursday, June 26th at The Contemporary.

"Four culture workers selected by Cinqué Hicks will discuss current projects for 15 minutes each. The speakers are: Ed Garnes, Dosa Kim , Jenny "Bunny Bunns" Young, and Enrique Diaz of Red Cielo. Questions and answers following the presentations will be moderated by Tracy Young."
7PM - Free admission

Go See Art.

There is a lot of great work around town for you to check out right now. Stephanie Howard has a huge collection of her photographs up at San Francisco coffee. Sam Parker has an amazing show of drawings up at Youngblood. Check out an equally amazing response to it from Jeremy at Ghostmap Microwave. At this Friday's "Lazlo Hollyfeld" zine release, you'll have another chance to check out "Employee Picks" at MINT Gallery. And if you haven't made it by WonderRoot yet, get over there to check out their current show with art from Charlie B, Lee Summers, RachelEvans, Francis Matia, Brennan Maddow, and Christy Parry.

If you don't know that Dark Meat often performs with over 20 members and has a horn section called the Vomit Lasers, then this video will tell you all you need to know. Thanks to Cable and Tweed for directing to this gem. Dark Meat plays Friday night at Athfest.

Rene Arriagada, Blink Closing at Beep Beep Gallery

Beep Beep is throwing what looks to be a hell of a closing reception for their current exhibition. They will be cooking out at around 7, there will be a photo booth set up by Click Clique, and then a performance by the psych-rock power trio, All the Saints.
If you haven't seen the show yet, I suggest you do so. Here are some video interviews of the artists:

As much as the idea of another monster themed group show bothers me, there are some new names on this flyer to add to the usual talent that fills the walls of Atlanta's skinniest art gallery. Check it out this Friday the 13th of June.
