Noot d'Noot's "Fingers Like Steeples" Video

You may have seen the video for "Fingers Like Steeples" by local funk outfit Noot d'Noot posted on one or more of Atlanta's music blogs lately. But I dug up a little info about the guys who made the video: "Steven Key did the animation at 24 frames per second with 250 drawings for the hands turning into a stegasaur scene alone. steven and his friend Will Potter edited and shot it with the 'after effects' program, final cut pro, ballentines, and super sour diesel over 4 days in LA with a $0 budget." Check out the video below, as well as a fresh new poster from Squanto for their "Cash for Gold" record release next month.

Portfolio Review+Thy Mighty Contract at Beep Beep Gallery

This Saturday, May 30th starting at 7pm you can bring in your portfolio to be reviewed by Beth Gilmore of Twist Gallery to be considered for upcoming shows at their space in Nashville. Then at around 9pm one of my favorite local acts, Thy Mighty Contract will play a free set.

Gather Atlanta Benefits

If you haven't heard about Gather Atlanta yet then here you go. MINT Gallery, BurnAway.org, WonderRoot, and ThoughtMarker got together to create an event that will introduce emerging creative entities, underground galleries, artists, and designers to each other and to the public. Its going down on June 6th, from 6-9 at Eyedrum, so don't miss it. This week there are two events that will benefit Gather Atlanta, the first being a midnight dance party at Lenny's Bar on Thursday, May 21st thanks to Bean who will also be the DJ for the evening. The second is a show put on by Atlanta Creative Conscious at WonderRoot this Saturday, May 23rd featuring one of my new favorite bands, Dead Rabbits. Both shows are asking for a $5 donation. To learn more about Gather Atlanta, check out our website at GatherAtlanta.com

ASIFA Animation Draw

Saturday May 16th at 3pm at WonderRoot.
ASIFA-Atlanta presents a unique opportunity to animate on paper! No experience necessary! We will have multiple light tables set up and lots of paper. Artists are encouraged to switch and continue where another artist left off, making an "exquisite corpse" type of animation. The resulting collaborative animated film will be submitted to WonderRoot TV, ASIFA-Atlanta's "Roll Yer Own", and other animation screenings.

Here is the end result of the first Animation Draw that ASIFA did in conjunction with the Atlanta Film Festival last month.

This weekend

There are openings at both Aurora Coffee locations tonight, Travis Dodd at L5P, some sort of group exhibit in the highlands.
Then on Saturday, May 2nd, beyond the skatedeck exhibit at Youngblood that I already mentioned, there are two more openings that I've been very excited to see. Joe Tsambiras opens "Golden Feelings" at Eyedrum's small gallery from 6-8 and then Jess Hinshaw's "Let's Exchange the Experience" opens at MINT Gallery between 8-11.
